Former standout YSU running back Shawn Patton dies

The 45-year-old was found dead at an Austintown home Tuesday afternoon

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Former standout Youngstown State running back Shawn Patton died early Tuesday morning, according to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

The 45-year-old was found dead at an Austintown home in the 100 block of Aldrich Road around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

There were no injuries on his body, according to the coroner.

Austintown police and the coroner’s office are still investigating the case.

Patton played a prominent role on YSU’s 1994 National Championship team, totaling a team-high and then-school record of 1,626 rushing yards.

Five years before that, he led Campbell to the Division III football State Final in 1989.
