CLEVELAND, Ohio – Goldie Ellen Campbell, 92, of Cleveland, Ohio, departed this life Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at University Hospital, following complications of a short illness.
She was born May 28, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Nesbit and Lela Mae Clay Hopper.
Ms. Campbell was employed with Visiting Nurses Association for many years as Director of Medical Records, before retiring in 1995. She also worked as Director of Medical Records at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Women’s Hospital and University Hospital.
She was a member of East Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking and crafts.
She leaves to mourn one son, Morris Taylor Pollard of Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters, Ms. Dianne Pollard Thornton of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Ms. Sheila Elizabeth Meckley Manley of Cleveland Heights; one sister, Ms. Patricia Pitts of Cleveland; two half-siblings, Ms. Betty Jean Springer and Earl Hopper, both of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roland Hopper, Robert Hopper, James Hopper and Donald Hopper and four sisters, Ms. Lillian Smith, Ms. Mable O’Connor, Ms. Dorothy Wilson and Ms. Florence Smith.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lucas Memorial Chapel, 9010 Garfield Blvd, Garfield Heights.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
