POLAND, Ohio – A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, at 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our Savior/St. Nicholas Church, in Struthers, for Lillian Cherry, 93, of Poland, who passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Lillian was born on August 21, 1923 in Sabraton, West Virginia, a daughter of Frank and Martha Nagy Boback.
She came to this area in 1931 and married Martin Cherry on June 17, 1950.
She worked at G.M. McKelvey Company, George Oles Market, Frank’s United Market and Barley Meat Market in Youngstown.
She was a member of St. Nicholas/Christ Our Savior Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society.
She was an extraordinary Hungarian cook and stay-at-home mom who loved to sew. Above all, she was a proud and loving mom and grandmother.
Lillian leaves three daughters, Marsha (John) Popovich of Boardman, Martha (Jason) Turk of Hobe Sound, Florida and Linda (Nikolaos) Ginnis of Poland; five grandchildren, Alex (Amanda) Popovich of Stow, Jennifer Turk of St. Augustine, Florida and Nicole, Krista and Michael Ginnis of Poland and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Ava Popovich.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who died October 18, 2006; her three brothers, Joseph, Frank and David Boback and three sisters, Irene Budack, Caroline Kish and Ethel Faczan.
Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 30 and on Wednesday morning, May 31 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Lillian’s name be made to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley at 6505 Market Street Boardman, Ohio 44512.
