SHARPSVILLE, Pennsylvania – Cossie “Sonny” O’dell Holmes, of Sharpsville, passed away at 5:37 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Hillcrest Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was 70.
Sonny was born June 4, 1946, in McRoberts, Kentucky, a son of Irene (Baker) Holmes and Lonnie P. Holmes.
Sonny graduated from McRoberts High School, Kentucky.
He was in the U.S. Army for 22 years, serving in the Vietnam War.
He is of the Protestant faith.
Sonny enjoyed baseball cards, fishing, coin collecting and most importantly, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife at home, Susan M. Susak Holmes, whom he married November 2, 1967; three daughters, Mary I. Holmes Coast of Sharon, Paula Holmes of Sharpsville and Jennifer L. Holmes Raiti and her husband, Frank, of Sharpsville; two sisters-in-law, Carol Holmes of Kentucky and Joy Holmes of Indiana; five brothers, Ronnie Holmes of Tennessee, Charles Holmes of Michigan, Freddy Holmes and his wife, Charlotte, of Tennessee, Teddy Holmes and his wife, Linda, of Michigan and Joe Holmes and his wife, Brenda, of Tennessee; ten grandchildren, Brian, Shawn, Bruce “Goob,” Steven and his wife, Kenzie, Brandon, Kirklyn, Kimberly, Cassie, Kyra and Sierra and five great-grandchildren, Shawn “Lucky,” Cameron, Aria, Bailey and Kinsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Danny Holmes and a sister-in-law, Nancy Holmes.
Calling hours will be held 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7 in the John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Hermitage.
Funeral Services will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7 in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles officiating.
Burial will be in Westside Cemetery, Sharpsville, Honor Guard service by Wheatland West Middlesex Honor Guard.
