EUSTIS, Florida (Formerly Cortland, Ohio) – Leona Mae Layfield, age 81, died peacefully in her sleep at her Eustis, Florida home on Thursday, June 8, 2017.
Leona is survived by her husband, Harold Layfield; children, Michael Layfield, William Layfield and Tina Layfield-Helms; grandchildren, Gabriel Sponsler, Leah Hetrick and Johnny Helms; great-grandchildren, Luke Hetrick and Leona Luna Sponsler and her brother, Homer Ham.
Leona was born on November 27, 1935 in Meadowbrook, West Virginia, the daughter of David and Beatrice Ham.
She married Harold Layfield in 1955.
Leona was accomplished at quilting and hosted foreign exchange students for several years. She was very social and loved a noisy house full of people.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 1:00 p.m. at Selby-Fox Funeral home/Crown Hill Burial Park, 3966 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, Ohio 44473.
Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Richard Ham officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Leona’s life.
