AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Shirley A. (Zarisky) Luther passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Friday, June 9, 2017, after a very brief illness.

Shirley was born on December 16, 1942, the daughter of Helen (Rajkovich) and Tony Zarisky and was a life-long area resident.

She worked at a number of jobs, including JCPenney and Target but her career always took a backseat to what was really important to her. Her focus was her family which include daughters, Justine and Rhonda and son, Eric Jason, affectionately called Jake.

Her favorite pastimes included floating in the pool, working crossword puzzles, watching horrible slasher films (the bloodier the better) and getting slobber kisses from all of her grand(fur)kids. She loved to watch the laundry agitate in the washer. Recently she developed an unusual obsession with watching the professional cliff divers on ESPN. Shirley was a study in contradictions – hated food but loved eating sweets, couldn’t sing a note but danced a mean jitterbug, taught her kids lost skills like changing a tire but simply could not work a TV remote. She also taught her children to respect their elders but to question authority when someone appeared ethically challenged. She loved to laugh, had a dry wit and did not tolerate fools gladly.

She leaves behind daughter, Justine of Uniontown, Ohio; daughter, Rhonda Luther Toth and husband, Michael, of Austintown and only son, Jake, also of Austintown; sisters, Nancy (Charles) Speerbrecher, Michele (Robert) Mulichak and brother, Ronald Zarisky. Grandfurkids include Riley, Clyde and Harley (Justine and Bree), Seymour, Chloe and Rousey (Rhonda and Mike) and Boss (Jake).

She will be tackled at the Rainbow Bridge by Mesa, Kane, Phoenix and Boris.

The family would like to acknowledge the help and support given by friend, Bree Cissell, especially during Shirley’s last days.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff of Hospice of the Valley. While we were only there for a short period of time, they were incredibly helpful to all of us and their efforts are very appreciated.

According to her wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements will be made by The Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.

Shirley’s family invites friends and family to celebrate her life by playing their favorite rocking tune (hers was “Maggie May” by Rod Stewart), sing and dance to it and enjoy that moment in your day.

Family and friends may visit www.foxfuneralhome.org to send condolences.
