YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Requiem Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, June 19 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Vienna, for Irene F. McCarthy, 95 of Youngstown, who passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, June 13.
Irene was born January 25, 1922 in Youngstown, a daughter of Patrick and Florence Connelly McCarthy, Sr.
Her education started at the Immaculate Conception School and graduated in 1940 from Ursuline High School.
She planned to become a nurse but the war broke out and had to help her family.
Irene worked for the Youngstown City Schools as a custodian at several schools in the district, her last ten years there were at East High School.
She was a devote catholic, prayed the rosary every day and was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church.
Irene loved playing bingo, watching Notre Dame Football and treating everyone with love and compassion.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sisters-in-law, Irene McCarthy of Youngstown and Jane McCarthy of Hubbard and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Irene is preceded in death by brothers, Joseph McCarthy, Patrick McCarthy and John McCarthy who was killed in action in WWII; sisters, Mary Katherine Wilson, Rosella McCarthy, with whom she lived with and Teresa Neubrech and a companion, Roy Pregi.
Irene’s family wishes to thank the staff of Omni West Assisted Living and Sandy for their love and compassion.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon Monday, June 19 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Vienna prior to Mass.
