SHARPSVILLE, Pennsylvania – A funeral will be Wednesday, June 21, for John L. “Jack” Wiley, of Sharpsville, formerly of Sharon. He passed away on Thursday, June 15, at the Avalon Springs Nursing Home due to complications from pneumonia brought on from his Alzheimer’s disease. He was 78.
Jack was born and raised in Sharon. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1956.
Following high school, Jack served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963 where he was stationed in Corpus Christi and Guam. While stationed in Guam, Jack earned his Shellback and traveled to Japan while on leave.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Jack worked at the former Sharon Steel Corp for 29 years mostly as a furnace operator on the basic oxygen furnace and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a driver’s license examiner for seven years. He was also employed by the Holiday Inn as a guest services representative and by the Mercer County Job Center as an intake interviewer.
While working, Jack earned an associate’s of business degree from Penn State University and an associate’s in hospitality management from Youngstown State University.
Jack enjoyed walking daily in Buhl Park, hiking in Colorado, traveling to all 50 states, photography, computers and baking cakes for his family’s birthdays. Most of all, he enjoyed being “Pappy Jack” to his grandkids. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, the former Margaret Morgan Komorek; son, Ron Wiley and his wife, Sheila, their daughter, Olivia and their son, Nathan of Findlay Township; daughter, Linda Wiley of Champion, Ohio; stepdaughter, Karen Sheranek and her husband, Bernie, their daughter, Morgan and their son, Mark; stepdaughter, Janice Hackett and her husband, Chuck, their son, Cameron; stepdaughter, Sheila Bresnan and her husband, Pat, their sons, Nicky, Tommy and Joey; brother, Ken Wiley and his wife, Dee of Sharpsville and sister-in-law, Sonia Seginak Wiley of Hermitage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent James Wiley and Lida Stirling Wiley and his brother, Robert Wiley.
Calling hours will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in John Flynn Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2630 E. State St., Hermitage.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Douglas Dayton officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with military honors by Wheatland, West Middlesex Honor Guard.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
