YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A tree fell on a motorcyclist Saturday morning at Oak Street Extension and Early Road on Youngstown’s east side. Officials say the man is lucky he avoided serious injuries.
It happened around 11 a.m.
The massive tree began to fall as the man rode down the street — bringing down power lines with it. It only took crews minutes to get the man out from underneath the branches.
He was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Firefighters say that the tree was hanging over the edge and rotting — it was only a matter of time before it fell.
“He almost made it through,” said Ron Russo, battalion chief of the Youngstown Fire Department. “And one of the branches clipped him and knocked him off his motorcycle. He’s injured, not seriously, but he is injured. A second or so later, he would have been dead.”
Ohio Edison was also called out to cut down the tree and fix power lines.
The road is open after cleanup following the incident.
