GIBSONIA, Pennsylvania (Formerly Sharon) – Mary Ellen Sainsbury, of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, formerly of Sharon, Pennsylvania, passed away in her home on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 5:56 a.m. after an extended illness. She was 97.
Mary Ellen was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1919, the daughter of the late William and Edna Rose (Billings) Fleming.
She was a member of St. Catherine’s of Sweden Church in Allison Park, Pennsylvania. When she lived in the Sharon area, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Mary Ellen enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Trevor Sainsbury, whom she married on June 8, 1937. He died in 1989.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Deborah Lowery of Mars, Pennsylvania and Kathleen Sainsbury of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; her son, Dr. James Sainsbury and his wife, Andrea, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; grandchildren, Dr. Christen Herndon and her husband, Joseph, Dr. Jennifer Brauser and her husband, Aaron, James Trevor Sainsbury, Melissa Sullivan and William Leland Sainsbury and his wife, Seva and her great-grandchildren, Sophia Herndon, William Herndon, Nathaniel Brauser, Lily Brauser, Gabriel Brauser, Ethan Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Erin Sainsbury and Eva Sainsbury.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Fleming II, Gerald Fleming and John Fleming.

Private family visitation will take place.
Funeral service will be on Friday, June 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel, Sharon, Pennsylvania with Rev. Ted Martin, Sr., Pastor of Hampton Presbyterian Church, Gibsonia, officiating.
Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
