SEBRING, Ohio – Derl B. Smith, age 83, of Sebring passed away at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in his home.
He was born in Erbacon, West Virginia on July 14, 1933, son of Norva and Flora (Williams) Smith.
Derl was employed as a truck repairman for 20 years at General Motors in Lordstown.
He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army with 20 years of service as a maintenance truck foreman.
He attended Kent State University for two years.
He was a life member and past Commander of the Salem Amvets Post 45.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Morrison) Smith whom he married August 6, 1979; four sons, Jerry Allen Smith of Beloit, Stephen Daryl Smith of Salem, Waid Frederick Smith of Salem and Dwight Edgar Smith of Sebring; one daughter, Lisa Dawn Smith of Alliance; a sister, Joanne Hull, from Weston, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. William Basham of Hamlin, West Virginia.
Calling hours are Sunday, June 25, 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Monday, June 26 one hour before the service, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Burial is at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring.
Salem Honor Guard will conduct graveside services at the cemetery following the service.
