Semi-truck catches fire on I-680, quickly extinguished

Youngstown and Boardman fire departments responded and quickly extinguished the fire

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A semi-truck caught fire Thursday around 12:15 p.m. on I-680 southbound.

The truck was near the Lemoyne Avenue overpass.

Both the Youngstown and Boardman fire departments responded and quickly extinguished the fire. A state Patrol officer initially stopped and tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher, but that didn’t work and the fire kept growing.

The company that owns the truck is On Time Delivery of Middleburg Heights.

The driver wasn’t hurt.

Traffic was backed up from Shirley Road to 224. The 680 south bound lanes were shut down for about 30 minutes.
