Andrew Cvercko, North Lima, Ohio - obit

NORTH LIMA, Ohio – Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday morning, July 7 at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Campbell, with Fr. Andrew Nelko officiating for, Andrew Cvercko, 95, who passed away Monday evening, July 3.

Andrew was born March 9, 1922, in Campbell, the son of Andrew and Anna Evan Cvercko.

He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and went on to further his education at Youngstown College, The Dana Musical Institute and received his Master’s Degree at Kent State University.

Also, Andrew served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.

Andrew was an instructor of music and chorus at Fowler/Vienna School District, principal at Fowler/Vienna School District, board member of Mathews Local School District and retired school superintendent of Mathews Local Schools.

He was a member of the church, past president of the FROC, St. Andrews Choir director 56 years total, St. Johns choir director of Campbell and Warren, male chorus director of Northeast Ohio, founded the St. Vladamir Retreat and Camp Center (formerly the FROC Camp), FROC Camp director for more than 20 years and past president of the Ohio Music Education Association District 5. In 1957, his band was recognized as First Chair of America, the Kiwanis Club of Vienna, the Russian Brotherhood Organization Lodge 198, scoutmaster of Boy Scouts in Campbell and The Eastern Orthodox Men’s Society. He also ran the EOMS Golf League for several years, and was an avid bowler in Warren and Youngstown areas and ABC avid golfer in Warren and Youngstown and a member of YMCA competing in racquetball and handball tournaments.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Anne Pecuszok, whom he married on December 22, 1967; his children, Dave (Lisa) Cvercko of Nashville, Tennessee, Donya (Todd) Wilson of Columbus, Dan (Agni) Cvercko of Boardman, Elaine Lawrence of Ravenna, Janet (Gary) King of Cortland, June Stewart of Boston and Andrew J. (Olga) Cvercko of Melbourne, Florida; 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Michael Cvercko and four sisters, Susan Reichert, Anne Billik, Mary Siembedia and Elizabeth Cvercko.

The Cvercko family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends on Thursday evening, July 6 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, where a Panachida service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. and again Friday morning, July 7 at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
