WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 19-year-old was shot near a Warren basketball court Monday night after a series of shootings over the weekend.

Police responded to gunshots near the Highland Terrace basketball courts on Lane Drive SW around 8:30 p.m. A 911 caller said the suspects ran from the scene on foot.

The victim, Darius Austin, was taken to the emergency room at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for multiple gunshot wounds.

Pastor Todd Johnson, of Second Baptist Church, said this neighborhood is his mission field, and when things like this happen, it makes him want to reach out to the youth even more.

“We’ve had a rash in the last few days and weeks, but I think that number one thing we can do is settle ourselves and come together as a community, and I mean at the ground-level community members, neighbors, churches, organizations, and start to be present and visible and talk to one another,” he said.

Police do not have any suspects in custody at this time.

Five others were also shot over the weekend in Warren. It is unknown at this time whether any of those shootings are related.
