YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A home going celebration in honor of Mr. Arthur Allen West, Sr. will be held Thursday, August 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greater Liberty Baptist Church in Campbell.
Mr. West, affectionately known as “Art,” was born in Youngstown, on July 3, 1944, a son of the late Ulysses G. West and Leona Kennedy West.
He was home by his Savior on Saturday, August 5, 2017, with his loving family at his side.
Art was a 1964 graduate of East High School and was formerly employed for five years with the City of Youngstown Sanitation Department and 30 plus years for Commercial Shearing.
He was a member of the Commercial Bowling Local 2332 league and enjoyed fishing. He liked to travel and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He attended The Greater Liberty Baptist Church where he served as past chairman of the Trustees Board and a member of its male chorus.
Mr. West leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Sheila West of Youngstown, Theresa (Dwayne) Satterwhite of San Antonio and Arthur West II of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Tamara Davis of Columbus, Raymond Hightower II of Youngstown and Layla Satterwhite of San Antonio; his siblings, Donald (Roberta) West of Killeen, Texas, Shirley Patterson, Darlene (Dolly) Moses and Vera Yates; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, including a niece whom he reared, Pamela Jones of Youngstown; the mothers of his children, Sybil West and Vanessa West and very special friends, George Warren and Barbara Carter.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Willie Trail, who reared him; his late wife, Diane Morrow West; his siblings, Helen Douglas, Calvin West, Leonard West, Kenny and Warren Yates.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 9 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the J.E. Washington Funeral Home. The family will receive friends again on Thursday, August 10 from Noon- 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to service.
