SHARON, Pennsylvania – Rachel D. Vatavuk, of Sharon, passed away at 7:39 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown. She was 24.
Rachel was born on December 29, 1992 in Sharon, a daughter of Richard L. and Jeanne (Dittmer) Vatavuk.
She was a 2011 graduate of West Middlesex High School where she was a member of the softball and volleyball team and later attended Youngstown State University.
Rachel was of the Methodist faith.
She was a proud member of the West Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, Station 74.
She is survived by her parents, Richard and Jeanne Vatavuk, Sharon; three brothers, Jacob Vatavuk of South Pymatuning, Robert (Tammy) Knapp of Groton, Connecticut and Scott Knapp of Hermitage; maternal grandparents, Donna Montgomery and William Dittmer and longtime boyfriend, Adam Garrett.
Rachel was preceded in death by an infant sister, Donna and her paternal grandparents, Louis and Louise Vatavuk.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1 in the funeral home with Rev. Lisa Hickman, director of Pastoral Care-First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, officiating.
Interment will be held at Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
