Doris V. Armor, Greenville, Pennsylvania - obit

GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – Doris “Valjean” (Gestner) Armor, 96, of 339 W. Jamestown Rd. of Greenville (formerly of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania), died peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2017, at her residence at the Ridgewood.

She was born March 1, 1921 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Dr. John and Eula (Hunter) Gestner.

She was a 1938 graduate of Tarentum High School and a 1942 graduate of Westminster College, having been named Freshman of the Year.

She married the late John C. Miller in 1942. In 1959, she married Hayes V. Armor, who preceded her in death in 2007.

She worked as an executive secretary at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation (now Allegheny Technologies, Inc.) for 32 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge and Brackenridge Heights Country Club.

In addition to being an avid golfer and card player, she enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending winters in Naples, Florida.

She is survived by her son, Dr. John L. (Barbara) Miller, of Greenville, Pennsylvania; a stepson, William (Lonnie) Armor of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Father John L. Miller of Oil City, Pennsylvania and Jill Marie (Matthew) Ross of Greenville, Pennsylvania; two stepgrandchildren, Thomas Armor of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania and Ryan Armor of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; four great-grandchildren, Katie, Anna, Brian and Johnmichael Ross; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Lindsay, Noelle, Natalie and Barrett Armor and four nieces and nephews, Dr. Susan, Anne, John and Tom Whitney.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou (Gestner) Whitney.

A private religious service for the family is being held with her grandson, Father Miller, as the presider and interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville, Pennsylvania.
