WEST FARMINGTON, Ohio – Vernon E. “Vern” Proper, 67, of West Farmington, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He was born June 24, 1950 in Jamestown, New York, a son of the late Ellsworth D. and Leora J. (Stover) Proper.
On May 17, 1975 he married Phyllis Elston, with whom he spent the last 42 years.
Vern worked at Johnson Rubber for over 30 years. He retired in 2012 after working in the factory, where he also drove the factory truck. Most recently he drove taxi for the Amish.
Vern loved being in the outdoors, hunting, cutting firewood and working on his cars.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Phyllis E. Proper of West Farmington, Ohio; daughter, Vickie Clifton of Jamestown, New York; Tyler Evans and his daughter, Brynlee whom Vern treated like one of his own; a sister, Mary Wallace of Falconer, New York; as well as several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Chapman; infant son, Travis Elston Proper; brother, Richard Proper and infant sister, Alice Ann Proper.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Southington Christian Church, 3285 State Route 534, Southington, OH 44470, where Elder Ed Dulka will officiate.
Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Southington Christian Church as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday, September 23 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
