SHARON, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Senior wide receiver Ziyon Strickland returns after pulling in 63 receptions for 1,133 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also finished with 34 tackles (six for loss) and six interceptions on defense. He also entered 2017 having already broken three Mercer County records.
Question: What is the strength of your team?
Answer: I’d say in our strength, we got all the players we need. We just got to work at getting better. Playing as a team and not thinking about ourselves. That’s the strength of our team, just us. If we’re not together, then nothing is going to work at all.
Question: What is your strength as a football player?
Answer: My leadership, trying to get my team as one. If we get down, trying to get them back together. The games is never over so I just try to be a leader for my team. So, we don’t get our heads down.
Question: What talents do you have that scouts may be looking for?
Answer: Speed. Hands. If I got one-on-one coverage, they already know who is going to come down with the ball.
Question: What players have had the greatest influence on you?
Answer: First, my cousin, Dersean. He played for Sharpsville. He admired me to play football a lot so I went to all of his games. I watched him play.
Question: What NFL player stands out to you?
Answer: Odell, one of my favorite receivers in the NFL. Just how he dress, have fun with the game. He’s just so smooth in his routes and all. I just like how he plays, his style.
Question: What does it feel like to be chosen for Big 22?
Answer: It means a lot. When I found out I was on it last year, I was very happy. I just wanted to keep fighting, trying to get better and better every day. Hopefully I get that trophy this year.
