WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating after an early morning shooting in Warren left one person dead.
Officers responded to the area of Beck Street and Rogers Avenue, near Trumbull Homes, around 3:45 a.m. Saturday on reports of a disturbance with shots fired.
Police found Michael Blackwell, 37, dead when they arrived.
Rodney Bartholomew was one of many living in the area who woke up to the sound of gunshots.
“About, I think, 3:50 something, near 4:00, boom, boom, boom, boom,” he said.
No suspects have been arrested but witnesses described seeing a black man with a gun leave the scene in a dark blue truck.
Investigators don’t know what the motive behind this shooting could be. Calls to 911 suggest there may have been an argument before the shooting.
Many people living in the area said gunshots and crime scene tape is an all too familiar scene at Trumbull Homes. Still, it doesn’t make what happened Saturday morning any less frightening.
“I wish Trumbull Homes would make sure when they let people into Trumbull Homes, they don’t carry guns,” Bartholomew said. “They shoot people because if they don’t like them or they didn’t say ‘hi’ the right way.”
The Warren Police Department’s Detective Division continues to investigate.
