ORWELL, Ohio – Matthew Henry Lard, Sr., 84, of Orwell, departed this life Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 7:06 a.m. at St. Joseph Health Center.
He was born December 4, 1932 in Meridian, Massachusetts, the son of Ras and Susie Lee Barney Lard, residing in Cleveland for over 20 years before moving to Orwell.
Mr. Lard was employed with the United States Postal Service for 34 years as a mail carrier, before retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus.
He enjoyed fishing, farming and collecting antiques.
He was a 1950 graduate of Thomas Edison High School (Cleveland).
He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 3rd Class from August 13, 1952 – August 12, 1956, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He married his wife, Emma Jean Hinton Lard, on May 25, 1962.
Besides his wife of Orwell, he leaves to mourn two sons, Matthew H. (Michele) Lard, Jr. of Cortland and Myron L. Lard, Sr. of Mansfield; two daughters, Mrs. Melanie J. (Kenneth) Lard-Williams of Orwell and Ms. Natash J. Lard of Stow; one granddaughter, Mrs. Marlea K. (Anthony) Burke of Oakwood; seven grandsons, Myron L. Lard, Jr. of Newton Falls, Jourdan M. Lard of Akron, Jaran T. Lard of Columbus, Austin M. Jones of Kent, Marcus A. Lard of Cleveland, Donovan M. Minger of Akron and Mason L. Lard of Stow and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Ms. Marla S. Minger.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church.
Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday, October 12.
Burial will take place at Brownwood Cemetery, North Bloomfield.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
