WARREN, Ohio – Mrs. Anniest Essie Williams-Kirksey, 91, of 2098 Milton Street, S. E., Warren, Ohio, departed this life on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 8:15 p.m. in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, due to congestive heart failure.
Mrs. Kirksey was born June 1, 1926 in Lafayette Alabama, to the late Reverend Clayton Lewis and Isadella Williams, Sr.
She was a 1945 graduate of Chambers County High School in Lafayette, Alabama. Anniest cwould continue her education while attending Selma University in Selma, Alabama, Stillman University and graduated from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, receiving a two year degree that enabled her to teach in a one room schoolhouse while in Alabama.
She was united in marriage to the late Jesse Kirksey, Sr. and to that marriage they raised 11 children.
Mrs. Kirksey was a resident of Warren, Ohio for 69 years.
She worked numerous jobs, ultimately retiring from Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in 1996. With a kind and gentle spirit, she continued to serve others while enjoying life.
She enjoyed journaling, crocheting, cooking, gardening and traveling.
Mrs. Anniest Kirksey will be sadly missed by her children, Jacqueline (Albert, Sr.) Moore of Warren, Ohio, Jesse Kirksey, Jr, (Annie) of Dunn, North Carolina, Gwynne (Michael) Little of Trenton, New Jersey, Anita (Sam) Dennison and Annette McCord of Warren, Ohio, Frenchie (Tommy, Sr.) Boggs of Lordstown, Ohio, Priscilla (Tyrone) Reed of Akron, Ohio, Kim (Gwen) Kirksey of Raleigh, North Carolina, Chanel Crunkleton, Youngstown, Ohio and her baby girl, Bertha Kirksey of Warren, Ohio, whom so lovely covered, cared, and assisted her throughout her life; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
She also leaves behind to cherish her memories of her love four sisters, Ms. Sallie James of Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Dorothy Powell of Lafayette, Alabama, Ms. Mary Echols of Tuskegee, Alabama and Mrs. Aquilla (Otis) Colvin of Warren, Ohio.
Mrs. Anniest Kirksey was preceded in death by one son, Dwan Kirksey; four brothers, Andrew J. Williams, Jr., Richard Williams, Clanton L. Williams, Jr. and Talmadge Williams and three sisters, Ms. Isadella Williams, Ms. Priscilla Shavers and Ms. Simmie Barrows.
Family will receive friends at 851 Wildwood Drive, N.E., Warren at the home of her daughter, Jacqueline Moore.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 1510 Main Avenue, S.W. Warren, Ohio 44483.
A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday, October 14.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
