LISBON, Ohio – Sharon Lu Ruberto, 68, passed away at home following a lengthy illness on Friday, October 13.
Sharon was born November 8, 1948 in Somerville/Somerset, New Jersey to the late Kenneth K. and Gladys (Dalley) Manners.
She will be remembered for her love of horses and particularly for her skill as a trainer of thoroughbred horses. She operated Ruberto Racing Stables with her husband, Lou and son and daughter-in-law.
She enjoyed training and riding and built a successful career in race horses. She wintered in Wagener, South Carolina for ten years doing what she loved most, working with horses and fox hunting. She won several competitions and was well-known among her competitors. In addition, she drove bus for Hunterdon Central High School. She was a long-time member of Amwell Valley Hounds in Ringoes, New Jersey, Gulley Ridge Hounds in Waynesburg, Ohio, the Whiskey Road Foxhounds in Aiken, South Carolina, as well as the Saxonburg Hunt in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania and Salley, South Carolina.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Ruberto whom she married April 8, 1980; her sons, Louis Ruberto and his wife, Jenny of Lisbon and Shawn Cahill of Gainesville, Florida; her grandchildren, Hannah and Nicholas Ruberto and Peyton Cahill as well as her brother, Bergen (June) Manners of Ringoes, New Jersey and sister, Karen Peabody of Ringoes, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Van Dyke Manners.
There will be a memorial service officiated by the Rev. Tina Gallaher at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17 at the Weber Funeral Home.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service.
