AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Prayers will begin Thursday, October 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for Donald L. Mortimer, 81, who died Saturday evening, October 14 at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Donald was born August 18, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of Dean and Marjorie (Hamilton) Mortimer.
He worked at General Motors on the assembly line for 26 years, until retiring in 1996.
Donald was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Retirees of Local 1112 and the Carving Club at the Austintown Senior Center.
He leaves his wife, the former JoAnn Gamgene, whom he married November 8, 1958; daughter, Donna (Col. USMC (Ret.) Doug) Yurovich of Fairfax Station, Virginia; son, Michael D. (Patty) Mortimer of Youngstown; sister, Kay Kalenites of Tampa; six grandchildren, Michael C. Mortimer, Deanna Yurovich Albisu (Alex), Chris J. Mortimer, Garrett P. Mortimer, Jenna J. Davis and Keith Davis and one great-granddaughter, Aria Marie Albisu.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Mortimer and sister, Joyce Wilson.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, October 18 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
