CANFIELD, Ohio – Sister Janet Frantz, OSU, died on Saturday, November 11 at the Ursuline Motherhouse. She was 84.
Sister Janet was born on November 2, 1933 in Youngstown, the daughter of John T. and Rhoda Cable Frantz.
She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown on February 1, 1951 and made her perpetual profession on August 10, 1956.
Sister Janet was educated at St. Patrick Elementary School and was a 1951 graduate of Ursuline High School. She earned a BS in Education from Youngstown State University in 1959 and earned a MA in English from the University of Dayton in 1969. Sister Janet did post-graduate studies for Loyola University, New Orleans, Institute of Ministry Extension (LIMEX) and received a continuing education certificate in Pastoral Ministry in 1994.
In over 57 years of ministry, Sister Janet held a variety of roles. She taught at St. Columba and Sacred Heart in Youngstown, St. Rose, Girard and St. Patrick, Leetonia as well as teaching English at Ursuline High School. She served in parish ministry at St. Charles, St. George, Lisbon, St. Lucy, Campbell, St. Anthony, and St. Brendan. She also served as the Associate Director of the Renew Program for the Diocese of Youngstown. When she returned to the Motherhouse, Sister Janet took a position at the Ursuline Center and in the business office of the Community.
Sister Janet Leaves her Sisters in the community, numerous nieces and nephews, including Darlene McKinney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Patricia Marshall and two brothers, John and James.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield, Ohio at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16.
Calling hours will be held from 2:45 – 4:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery on Friday, November 17 at 10:00 a.m.
