YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, celebrated by Fr. Gerald DiLucia for Irene L. Cleghorn, 96, who passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017.
Irene was born on November 7, 1921, the daughter of John and Mary Yavorcik.
She attended Woodrow Wilson High School.
She was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II in the Youngstown area. She worked in the music department at Strouss and retired from the office of Butler Wick in 1986.
Irene loved to travel and went to Europe twice and traveled across the country by train. She loved going to Sarasota in the winter and the mountains in Pennsylvania in the summer.
She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cleghorn; her companion of 25 years, Tom Reto; her siblings, John, Edward and Cyril Yavorcik, Mary Kacenga, Florence Chuhanich and Anastasia Yavorcik.
They will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Irene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Assumption Village for their wonderful care of Irene in her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512, in Irene’s memory
