SARASOTA, Florida (Formerly Youngstown, Ohio) – John “Jack” Carlon of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Youngstown, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Doctor’s Hospital, Sarasota. He was 84.
Jack was born April 10, 1933 in Youngstown, the son of John and Mary Glynn Carlon, immigrants of County Mayo, Ireland.
He attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1951 graduate of Ursuline High School. Upon graduation, he entered St. Gregory Seminary, Norwood, Ohio where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He later received a Masters of Education from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
Jack was an educator and principal for over 36 years. He began his teaching career in the Cleveland School System. For a short time, he taught in Chicago but returned to the area and taught in the Springfield, McDonald, Vernon and Hubbard School Districts. He retired as a principal in 1993 from Roosevelt Elementary School, Hubbard.
His wife, the former Irene Ludwig, whom he married May 6, 1994 survives at home.
Also surviving are seven children; ten grandchildren; one stepson and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A mass of Christian burial will be held in Thursday, January 11 at St. Patrick’s Church, Sarasota.
