GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – Mary Esther (Rath) Kelly, 90, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 11, 2018 at The Grove at Greenville.
She was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1927 to the late Rev. Virgil O. and Barbara (Hall) Rath.
Mary Esther was a graduate of Holmes Theological Seminary. She served as a missionary to Nigeria with her husband, John and as a civilian secretary to a U.S. Army Colonel at the Pentagon.
She belonged to the Pentecostal Holiness and Assembly of God churches.
Mary Esther was a devout Christian who served her Lord, her family and her churches throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed both knitting and crocheting for relaxation.
She was married to Rev. John Thomas Kelly in Greenville, on July 31, 1951 and he preceded her in death.
Mary Esther is survived by her sister, Lois (Rath) Rohr-Kerr of Orlando, Florida; four nephews, Bruce Rohr of Orlando, Florida, Brian Rohr of Orlando, Florida, Lt. Col. Charles V. Rath, Jr. USAF (Ret.) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dr. G. David Rath of Beijing, China; a sister-in-law, Lorraine (Borowsky) Rath of Tyler, Texas; two nieces, Dr. Linda L. Rath of Tyler, Texas and Kathryn Ann (Walker) Picard of Conneaut, Ohio and a cousin, Thomas Moore of Adamsville, Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances (Rath) Walker and Geraldine Rath; a brother, Charles Rath; three infant siblings; an aunt, Olive (Rath) McEntire; a cousin, Mildred (McEntire) Moore and a niece, Joyce (Rath) Blennman.
There will be no local services. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Virginia.
