SHARON, Pennsylvania – MaryAnn (Scanlon) Paquet was born September 23, 1931 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to Hazel “Peg” (Pearson) and James Scanlon. She passed gently on Friday, January 19, 2018 in the home she loved with family and friends at her side at the age of 86.
She was preceded in death a short time prior by her devoted partner and husband of 70 years, Lewis J. Paquet. Both were formerly of Brookfield, Ohio and high school sweethearts.
MaryAnn “Mim” and Lewis “Lou” were married May 2, 1953 upon his return from The Korean Conflict and began their life together in Columbus, Ohio where she worked for The Ohio State University while he attended the OSU School of Horticulture until graduation in 1955. Previously, she worked at Westinghouse Industries. They relocated to North Canton and then Ashtabula, Ohio upon graduation where they began their family with two children, Luann (Zane) Mathews of Cortland and Michael L. Paquet of Warren.
MaryAnn and Lou arrived to Warren, Ohio in 1959 after purchasing Warren Florist & Greenhouse, Inc. from the Yaugo (Mary Yaugo and Harriett Bonini) family. They ran the business and greenhouses until 1984 when they offered their children and son-in-law the opportunity to continue a family tradition of quality related to commercial horticulture. Both worked generously in the business with their children and grandchildren for another 33 years in both supporting and integral functions.
In addition to work, MaryAnn was a volunteer as well as a past-president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary for 30 years.
She was a member of St. Pius X, then St. John Paul II Church, for 51 years, serving in various capacities often related to Altar & Rosary and Parish Council.
She was also a member of Fifth Wheel, Welcome Wagon, and Mom’s Eagles early in her Warren residence. Additionally, she was a long-time YWCA Board Member and a founding member of Trumbull Town Hall where she offered service for 38 seasons.
MaryAnn loved her family dearly. She was a champion of her grandchildren and adored her father’s original and strong Irish heritage. She embraced her Roman Catholic faith and honored its legacy of service and humility with grace. She was heroically and proudly a people person relishing in forged and sustained friendships while reaching out to many with greetings of love, kindness and remembrance.
She is survived by her children; grandchildren, Brendan (April) Mathews of St. Louis, Trevor (Amy) Mathews of Oklahoma City, Kiley (Carter) Browning of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Patrick (Barb) Scanlon of Canfield and William (Patricia) Scanlon of Warren; as well as by a bounty of loving and caring friends and extended family who made her time here complete with joy and warmth.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Earth Angel Farm/Lewis & MaryAnn Paquet Education Scholarship Fund.
