Lawrence "Larry" H. Simons, Warren, Ohio - obit

WARREN, Ohio – Lawrence “Larry” H. Simons, 91, of Warren, Ohio passed Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Larry was born October 15, 1926, in Warren, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph J. and Francis (Crouch) Simons.

He attended Warren schools and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School.

He served in the United States Navy during WWII from November 3, 1943 to May 25, 1946, all in the Pacific area of operations and received an honorable discharge.

Larry worked for Republic Steel in Warren and Youngstown for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #1090 and of the Warren Elk’s Lodge #295. For over 50 years, Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Niles McKinley #794 F.&A.M., Mahoning Chapter #10, Warren Council #58 and Warren Commandry #39.

Larry was past president and life member of the Warren Men’s Bowling Association and past president of the Ohio State Bowling Association. He was elected to the W.M.B.A. Hall of Fame in 1989 and elected to the Ohio Bowling Council Hall of Fame in 2008. Along with bowling, he had enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, gardening and travel and was a big sports fan especially “Ohio State” football.

Loving memories of Larry will be carried on by his wife, Helen L. Simons of Warren, Ohio, whom he married February 16, 1974; daughter, Lynda (Harry) Owen of Girard, Ohio; grandson, Kevin (Marla) Morton; great-grandchildren, Connor and Dylan Morton; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Lyle Simons and sisters, Doris S. Benko and Marie Phillips.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 1:45 p.m.

The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Howland Township Cemetery, Howland, Ohio.
